Ready to start planning a kitchen renovation with an extra dash of personality? Let us walk you through our top designer picks.

Incorporate Contrasting Colours

Using contrasting colours on walls, counters and floors shows you know how to have fun with your design and help make an impression.

When you’re putting together your colour palette, go with either one neutral shade and one bold colour, or choose a warm and cool shade for greater contrast. Additionally, you can focus the contrasting colour on a single item, such as a kitchen island.

Get Creative With Lighting

We see clients consider lighting far too late in the kitchen renovation design process to ensure maximum impact. When consider lighting solutions for your kitchen renovation, planning is key.

Pendants over an island or the kitchen gathering hub are an essential element for task lighting as well as visual appeal. Kitchen pendants come in all shapes, styles, and sizes. If your kitchen pendant is positioned in a key location within your kitchen renovation, it is important you select a style that reflects your kitchen decor. At Balnei & Colina Sydney we suggest selecting kitchen pendants around the same time you are choosing colours for your kitchen, to ensure the colours work together.

Design Tip: The larger the area you want to light, the bigger the pendant light should be.  For task lighting, choose a pendant that is open at the top so the light underneath is not too harsh. For overall lighting, space pendants evenly throughout the room or over the work area. A small pendant light is effective over a sink or desk area. Cluster small pendants or choose a pendant with three or more lights over a dining room table or kitchen island.

Be Brave with Appliances

Anyone can add colour to a kitchen renovation using custom cabinetry, light fixtures or the usual post-renovation styling. However, few dare to use a fridge, oven or hood with a pop of colour for their custom kitchen renovation. A coloured, or even vintage refrigerator makes a statement. You can find coloured appliances in nearly every shade but our favourites include the coloured retro range from Smeg and Ilve.

Put the hard word on your hardware

Shake things up with unique hardware and handles. There are an abundance of finishes to choose from including metal, wood and ceramic, so explore something a little different to give your kitchen renovation an edge.

You can also explore leather strap handles, copper knobs or even solid wood finger pulls. The Balnei & Colina kitchen design team in Sydney can provide you with various samples to try, before your final selection for your kitchen renovation.

Keep in mind that just like every other element in your kitchen renovation, your choice of handle-ware should support your overall kitchen design theme.

Make a statement

It goes without saying that statement pieces are the simplest way to inject your personality into your kitchen. Copper or stone sinks, for example, are hardwearing and a practical way to add a unique touch to your kitchen. They are distinctive and add depth and layers to a modern kitchen design that will make it feel completely yours.

Don’t be afraid to reflect your personality in your design choices. Your space, after all, is a reflection of you.

A Balnei & Colina kitchen renovation specialist can help guide you through your selection of finishes, and act as a buffer to ensure all your choices are in keeping with the overall design objective for your kitchen renovation.
