Bathroom Renovation

Project Description

The Client Brief

Tony and Anna’s bathroom was built in 1972. It was 45 years old, bright blue, tired and badly in need of an update. The style, although perfect for the 1970s, failed to fit their current taste.

Tony and Anna wanted a new bathroom that reflected their style, they needed more storage, and wanted their new bathroom to feel spacious, light and airy.

The Challenge

The room was very small and we needed to look at it from both an aesthetic as well as functional level. In discussing with our clients how they used this room, we discovered that the bathtub had not been used for over ten years and it was something they were happy to do away with. Being a downstairs bathroom, one of three, we collectively decided it was better served as a powder room for visitors.

As the bathroom was built in the 1970s the layout needed to be altered. There was barely enough room to use the existing toilet and everything seemed overwhelming and crowded.

The Design Solution

We designed a completely new layout for Anna and Tony, keeping their budget in mind. We moved the toilet to an alternative corner to maximise space. We also custom made a larger vanity for more storage that included drawers for easier access to bathroom items.

A semi-frameless shower screen was added to visually create a greater illusion of space. Most importantly was the removal of the existing bath, which was no longer being used and only served to further clutter a small space.

Not only did our clients get a new bathroom, they got a completely new room. Because we wanted to ensure the integrity of the final build, we created a whole new sub floor and re-plastered all the bathroom walls.

A white vanity, together with large format tiles, further added to the feeling of space and height.

The Result

Tony and Anna now feel they have a bathroom that reflects their style. They are proud of their new bathroom and love the fact that it feels more open and larger than it did prior to renovating. The subtle colours used for the tiles and the vanity also support the feeling of space and light.

By re-constructing the entire room, Tony and Anna can feel assured that their new bathroom will stand the test of time and will be enjoyed for years to come.
