The Client Brief

Our client's existing kitchen was old, tired and in need of renovation. Living in the seaside suburb of Coogee, our client's wanted a kitchen with 'beachy' feel that had some traditional elements. The brief included maximing floor space to include a casual meals area, greater storage via the inclusion of a butler's pantry, and a self-contained laundry, all with smart tech, including soft close and full extension drawers.

The Challenge

The original kitchen was U-shaped with limited floor space. Our client's wanted a more open kitchen concept, so the challenge here was to create a new kitchen layout that maximised the existing floor space, added greater functionality and storage, and still met the open plan feel our clients were after.

The Design Solution

An island bench was built (south facing) to capture the ocean views, provide a casual dinng area and additional counterspace. Floor to ceiling cabinetry created much needed extra storage. Both the laundry and pantry, hidden behind beautiful sliding barn doors, added to the seaside feel and provided seperation of the pantry and laundry work zones. The kitchen is now a multifunctional room housing a seperate utility room and laundry. Dulux Vivid White cabinetry combined with shaker profile doors further support the 'beachy' look and feel.

The Result

A beautiful, modern and functional kitchen renovation in keeping with our clients beachside location. The new open plan kitchen concept has meant that the family can enjoy working in their new kitchen and still feel part of the remaining home. Seperate butler's and laundry rooms have provided this family with additional storage and functionality; freeing up space in the main kitchen for food preparation and entertaining.
