House Rules visits Balnei & Colina Design Studio

House Rules is a renovation program run by the 7 network where six teams travel around Australia to renovate each other's homes.

Balnei & Colina is proud to be featured in this seasons House Rules High Stakes. The renovation program has always been a family favourite, with all of us gathering together in front of the TV on Sunday nights glued and enjoying every minute.

We love House Rules in particular, because it’s about everyday Aussie’s renovating homes and this is exactly what we do for homeowners across Sydney everyday as part of our renovation business - bringing craftsmanship and a high end finish to every renovation project we complete throughout Sydney, be it a kitchen renovation, bathroom renovation or custom joinery solution. Our passion is renovating homes, and we are honoured to be able to help the contestants on Channel 7 House Rules do just that.

What a season so far! Season 8 House Rules High Stakes has been full of excitement and drama from the get go. Recently, we were lucky enough to have Kimmy & Rhi, Tamara & Rhys visit the Balnei & Colina design studio in Woollahra Sydney, to work on their kitchen and laundry concepts. Robert Fonti, Director of Balnei & Colina renovations helped the teams come up with innovative designs for each of their respective kitchen and laundry renovations.

The team at Balnei & Colina loved every minute of working with the House Rules contestants to develop their kitchen and laundry design concepts. Whoever you’re choosing to work with when renovating your home, your first meeting is an exciting opportunity to kick start your renovation project.

At Balnei & Colina renovations, we consider the role of a designer is to bring the vision you have for your home to life. Working with a Balnei & Colina design expert provides an opportunity to maximise the potential for your home and create a kitchen renovation, bathroom renovation or custom joinery solution that perfectly suits your space, specific requirements as well as your personal taste.

It’s important when working with a kitchen designer to come prepared, and these fabulous duo’s from House Rules; Kimmy & Rhi, Tamara & Rhys, did just that. A little effort and pre-planning prior to your design appointment to cover off the basics, will always help ensure you make the most of your time with your kitchen designer, bathroom design or joinery expert.

A kitchen design consultation is about exploring options and refining ideas to develop the perfect solution for your custom kitchen, bathroom, laundry or home joinery project. At Balnei & Colina our design consultations are complimentary and part of our service. Allow a minimum of 1 hour for the appointment with a complete design concept, preliminary sketches and itemised quote.

Kimmy & Rhi, and Tamara & Rhys have created some really spectacular rooms in Season 8 of House Rules and part of the reason for their success is the thorough planning. Being well prepared for their Balnei & Colina design consult meant we were all on the same page from the start, and this ensured a successful partnership throughout their respective kitchen and laundry renovation projects.

In this month’s B&C Journal, we show you how to best prepare for a design appointment, just like the contestants on House Rules. Follow these six clever tips to make the most of your design appointment, and ensure you achieve the best possible outcome for your home renovation project. Enjoy!

3) Inspirational Images

As the saying goes a picture can be worth a thousand words, and so many things are subject to interpretation for eg  the word “modern” may mean different things to different people. Providing inspirational images of how you’d like your completed project to look and feel will help provide visual clarity for your kitchen designer, bathroom designer or joinery expert.

4) Project Details

It important to have a rough idea of the finer logistical details for your project for example, there is no point in contracting a team that cannot deliver your project within the timeframes set. So from the outset provide the following:

Timing - Start & End Date for Your Project

Budget - An estimate on how much you’d like to spend

Moving Out? - Decide whether you will be living in your home during the construction phase of the renovation.

5) Qualify your Contractor

Have a list of questions ready for your the renovation company to ensure they are fully qualified and equipped to take on your project. Double check they have the necessary licensing and insurances to perform the work including:

  • Home Warranty
  • Public Liability
  • Workers Comp
  • Examples of successfully completed projects
  • Testimonials, referrals and reviews

6) Renovation Questions

Undertaking a kitchen renovation, bathroom renovation or custom joinery project is a complex task with many moving parts, so it’s only natural to have lots of questions. Jot every one of them down. Queries relating to the process, how things will work, the costs involved, as well as what can be achieved with your space are all important.

By writing your questions down prior to your design consultation, you can cover them off in the initial meeting, saving time on going back and forth with your kitchen designer, bathroom designer or joinery expert.

We can’t wait to see how Kimmy & Rhi’s kitchen renovation and Tamara & Rhys laundry renovation unfold in upcoming House Rules episodes! Watch how contestants take on the biggest renovation challenges in homes across Australia. Next episode airs Sunday 26th April 2020 @ 7:00pm
