5 Ensuite ideas to inspire your bathroom renovation

Ensuite bathrooms were once considered a luxury, but shifting lifestyle trends have made them a top priority for many renovators. Children leave home later, working from home is more common, and there is a renewed focus on well-being and maintaining a balanced life. We are all searching for private spaces that provide quiet, restorative moments within our homes!

More so than a family bathroom, an ensuite renovation can provide an opportunity to create a more personal space.

Like any bathroom renovation, an ensuite can be designed as a dedicated space to keep you revitalised and refreshed, so it should be configured according to your needs and wishes. The Balnei & Colina bathroom renovation and design team have a diverse range of attractive and clever design solutions to bring your dream ensuite renovation to life.

In today's edition of the B&C Home Journal, the Balnei & Colina bathroom renovation team share 5 popular bathroom design ideas to inspire an ensuite renovation that's both functional and restful. Enjoy!

1. Embrace colour and pattern

A bathroom design scheme based on the colours and patterns you love is a sure way to create a personalised ensuite renovation that recharges you. At Balnei and Colina, we love working closely with our clients to create bathroom design palettes that are beautiful and unique to each client.

You can choose a statement tile or add a coloured finish to your custom joinery. Or, you could go all out with patterned wallpaper or a brightly-hued sink.

Elevate the idea: Consider painting the ceiling the same colour as your wall. It's a bold move - especially if you've gone with a very colourful or super dark hue - but it can actually make your ensuite feel larger!

2. Add a shower ledge

A half-height wall built into your shower gives your ensuite renovation a sleek custom look and provides a convenient spot to store toiletries. Make a feature of the ledge by running it behind the toilet, bath, or vanity. It can be a practical way to hide plumbing and electricals and also gives you space to store essentials and display styling elements such as artwork or pot plants.

Elevate the idea: Turn the ledge into a decorative accent by finishing it with a statement tile like a textural Moroccan Zellige, a marble herringbone or a bold geometric.

3. Choose a free-floating vanity

Wall-hung vanities create a spacious and open feel in ensuites, powder rooms or small bathroom renovations. Their streamlined look suits contemporary-style bathroom renovations, and cleaning the floor underneath them is easy.

Getting a custom vanity's proportions right is important to the overall aesthetic and sense of design balance in your ensuite renovation. Our Balnei & Colina bathroom renovation experts take the guesswork out of the bathroom design process by creating custom joinery that looks fantastic and functions perfectly.

4. Inject a natural look

To create an ensuite sanctuary with a serene spa-like feel, include natural materials and soothing, organic tones. Think- timber joinery, natural stone benchtops and handmade tiles combined with clean lines and lots of natural light.

Taking elements from Scandinavian and Japanese design, Japandi is a bathroom design trend for 2023 that taps into this modern, earthy look.

5. Make a statement with your vanity lighting and mirror

Ambient overhead lighting is important in a bathroom renovation, but an additional lighting source by the vanity mirror will provide softer, flattering light for your face and add a decorative touch. Affixing the vanity lighting with a dimmer switch allows you to amp up the illumination when applying makeup or shaving.

Wall sconces or pendant lights positioned on either side of the mirror will draw attention to the area and create an elegant symmetry. We love how large round mirrors add curved lines to the space, curves being a key bathroom design trend for 2023.

Elevate the idea: For a luxury bathroom look, add an oversized mirror and then hang pendant lights so they overlap the reflective surface.
